It's JUNE! 

It's time for some fun in the sun!  Come join us on a thrilling adventure of rides and water park fun for NACE Industry Professionals at a non-traditional venue on June 20th.   Make sure to note the eariler time!

 

Next month is EXPERIENCE time!  If you have the time and means to attend this conference, you don't want to miss it.

 

After submitting four awards to national, which are presented at the conference in July, our next main focus for Tacoma-South Puget Sound NACE is committee development - especially developing our programs committee.

We can all agree that photo booths are a lot of fun. We can also agree that a 1968 VW van is fun too. So, we've combined the two and created a SUPER FUN mobile photo booth! It's the first of its kind in Washington State and now you can rent it for your next event. Just like our regular photo booths, the photo van will keep your guests entertained for hours. Guests can choose from a selection of props, climb in and sit in the back seat. Up to 10 people can pile in and strike a pose. Once inside, take your own photos using our proprietary Trigger Happy shutter release system. A few seconds later they will have their very own photo strip to commemorate the event. MEET MOONDOGGY

Moondoggy is a 1968 VW bay window van. He has spent his last 46 years living the life in California in search of the perfect wave. Moondoggy was lovingly cared for by his previous owner and it shows. He still sports most of his original interior with a few minor upgrades, particularly the LED lit hardwood floor and shiny red exterior. He's always the life of the party, surprising guests with his unique photo booth setup and making everyone feel welcome inside his comfortable interior. Wherever Moondoggy goes he brings smiles to peoples faces, and now those expressions can be captured with his very own photo booth!

Washington’s first Sub Zero ice cream shop opens this week in Federal Way, and owner Jack Walsh promises a treat for eyes as well as mouths.

Each ice cream dish is made to order and flash frozen with liquid nitrogen — bringing temperatures to 321 degrees below zero and creating a science-lab scene as a white cloud bubbles over the bowl. The sweet concoction turns from liquid to frozen ice cream in about 15 seconds. Customers can choose from an array of flavors and “mix-ins.”

Member Spotlight

Meet Sunshine Dunning

One of our newest Tacoma NACE members is Sunshine Dunning. She is the chef-owner of Sunshine’s Catering in Port Orchard. Her business has been located there for two years, and previously her business was based in Seattle for seven years.

Sunshine joined Tacoma NACE for two main reasons: To be part of the U.S. food buying club (SB Value) and to network with other people in the field.

“I am working all the times when normal events would be happening, for example, on weekends,” says Sunshine. “At the NACE meetings itt has been invaluable to me to see what other caterers are doing and see how they are designing the rooms.” She enjoys meeting the people she does business with in person instead of by phone.” For example she appreciated meeting the staff from CORT Party Rentals. “I really enjoyed the speakers at the Olympia meeting in May,” explains Sunshine. “Their presentation was very helpful. It opened up another avenue for us to explore.”


“While I had two primary reasons to join NACE, I find that every time I attend a meeting, other things have come up that I’ve found helpful and fantastic,” says Sunshine.


Sunshine’s Catering is also excited about catering dinner for a Tacoma NACE meeting in the next few months.

 

Sunshine Catering specialties

“We specialize in artisanal meals,” explains Sunshine. “We work with as many local farmers as we can on the Kitsap Peninsula, near our kitchen. We get all of our fish from Port Townsend, so the fish is coming out of the water 24 hours before we use it.” They shop at local farmers markets for foods as well.


“We have one of the only chef-owned businesses in the state,” says Sunshine. With two chefs working at Sunshine’s Catering, she says, “My chef, Patrick, and I are both classically trained chefs. We bring restaurant quality food to events.”

Their geographic territory is to provide catering to customers from Port Angeles to Olympia. Most of their business is catering for wedding receptions, and the remaining part of their catering is for events, private parties, and corporate events. They will provide what level of service their client wants from drop-off meals in “chic but disposable pans” to full-service catering with servers.

“We tend to hang on to clients,” says Sunshine. Sunshine’s Catering receives a lot of repeat business, which they greatly appreciate.

Sunshine Catering is in the process of rebranding their identity, so a new URL will be online in June. For now, use the existing website and it will redirect you to the new website when it’s online.

When working with clients, Sunshine appreciates working via email for the first couple of contacts, so she can get the particulars, then respond with a rough estimate via email. Once the client has the estimate, they may schedule a phone conversation to discuss the details.
