Chapter leaders were awarded with three national awards at the recent National Association for Catering and Events annual convention in Houston, Texas, in July.

Tacoma NACE took home the Chapter of the Year award. The award was given for three educational programs in 2016: Higher Learning (about the laws for marijuana use in the event industry, The Business of Being Fearless (businesses need a vision, strategies and fundamentals to succeed), and Improv for Business by “The YES Works”.

Other awards received

Using a Parisian theme, the décor, food and event focused on fundraising. About $9,000 was raised for the chapter’s leadership educational fund and for the Emergency Food Network in Pierce County. The chapter donated $7,625 in March 2016, which translates to $91,500 impact to those in need. Additionally, the chapter donated 410 pounds of food.

Tacoma NACE won the Education Program of the Year award for “Higher Learning” when participants learned about the laws regarding the use of marijuana at public and private events. It was held at Tin Can Alley in Tacoma.

“I am beyond proud of our chapter’s efforts. Receiving not only the Chapter of the Year Award, but two additional national awards is simply amazing. These awards come from the blood, sweat and tears of so many dedicated volunteers from Tacoma / South Puget Sound NACE Chapter. I’m excited to share the awards at our next meeting on August 15th,” stated Emily Cook, chapter president.

Additionally, Paula Lowe, was awarded with the President’s List “in honor of dedicated service and significant achievements in the mission of NACE”.
